PCAP Construction, Tail and Surface Finish
There are various touch panel structures with many variations in circuit connections and touch surface treatments. The following will explain this.
PCI Touch Screen Construction
AMT provide 2 kinds of structures design for PCAP: the Glass-Film-Film-Film (GFFF) and the Glass-Film-Film (GFF) structure. The GFFF structure is for the size from 7" up to 15.6" PCI touch panels. The GFF structure is for 3.5" to 10.1" PCAP COF design and 8.4" to 18.5" PCAP touch panels.

The COF GFF structure basically has the Controller IC on the tail.
There are different design concepts between GFFF and GFF structures. The GFFF structure has an EMI shielding layer under the bottom of touch panel for reducing the noise from the LCD. The GFF structure with COF tail design is ideally suited to mobile devices with limited system space.
Both structures are with glass on the surface layer, but the glass can be different per customer requirements. The cover glass thickness is supported in 1.1/1.8/2.8mm.
PCAP Tail Designs
There are different structures and sizes for PCAP touch panels, and the tails design of PCAP touch panels are different as well.
• The number of trace tracks to the controller depends on the panel size; the larger panels the more the traces.
• The location of the tail is usually on the long side of touch panel; the shorter the tail the better the touch function.
• There can be one, two or more tails for a PCAP touch panel, and also the COF tail.
• AMT use a ZIF connector for the PCAP COF tail to reduce the size and height of the system connector.
PCI Surface Finish
Generally, glass is used on the top surface of AMT PCAP touch panels, therefore these top glasses are commonly available in clear or glossy finish. Anti-glare finished top glass is also applicable.
